Embaru
Artwork size:
Materials: Upcycled rubbish bins, steel
“Embaru” is a whimsical outdoor sculpture crafted from
leftover rubbish bins retrieved from a local construction
project. The name combines the Indonesian word
Ember (“bucket” in English) and Baru (“new” in English),
playfully reinterpreting the concept of bins that have
become waste themselves.
In a time when recycling is increasingly challenging
and land昀椀lls are over昀氀owing with plastic and textile
garbage — especially on islands like Lombok and Bali
— “Embaru” serves as a poignant reminder that in our
world, when we discard or “throw something away,”
there truly is no “away.” Consumption habits matter;
together we can make a difference.
